Eysturoy is joined to Streymoy by a bridge over the sound and by the Eysturoy Tunnel with its famous undersea roundabout. Slættaratindur, the islands' highest peak at 880 metres, rises between Eiði and Gjógv. Gjógv itself is named for the 200-metre-long natural gorge that serves as its harbour.
